Well considering I share this blog with a white person I think that’s not a very hard question to answer. I don’t think it’s white people’s fault that the cops are not properly doing their jobs, it’s not white people’s fault that racism is a thing. Society did this, we all did this, history did this. The only way it can change is if we all change.
Forgive me if I misunderstand you, but you kind of say that black Americans are to blame for the racism they experience? As everyone needs to change? And that white people aren’t to blame for the racism in society? Well… wow.
Black people are NOT to blame for the racism they experience. People needs to educate themselves and realise that black people are impoverished, criminalised and still struggling because of systems that were put in place by people who were, well, mostly white. Many of those systems are inherently racist, so even if white people don’t intend to be racist, they choose to keep racist systems that keep black people from ever getting out of the miserable situation they’re in.
To change the systems that are oppressing black people, someone has to actually make the choice of changing the systems. And who can change the systems? Who can end racism? Well, powerful white people can change the racist systems the society is full of, and white people in general can stop being ignorant about history and its connection to the present.
I’m not black, my statement had nothing to do black people, the mentality that the race issue is a black v.s. white issue is regressive and not helping at all. In no way did my statement say black people, hispanic people, or any other minority were to blame for the racism they experience. So where you’re getting that from is beyond me.
Race is a social construct, one that didn’t come from white people for black people exclusively, hispanic people are racist towards each other, native people are discriminated against by almost every other race in the world. Asian people are discriminated by almost every other race out there.
And whether or not you want to accept it white people are discriminated because of the color of their skin, too. So yeah, we’re all to blame here, by all I mean society, we’ve done this, we’ve built this. Putting all the blame on one group of people when the issue covers every single race is not a good way to tackle things. I know this is tumblr and we’re all so close minded here that we forget there’s more than black or white people but please, try to remember that the world is bigger than you think, and that equality isn’t partial.
